Position Summary
The Head Mechanic / Facility Maintenance Lead is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all bowling equipment and facility systems. This leadership role ensures that lane machinery, building infrastructure, and maintenance operations meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and guest experience.
Safety is the foundation of this position. The Head Mechanic proactively identifies hazards, maintains compliance standards, and leads preventative maintenance practices to protect guests, staff, and equipment. This role combines advanced bowling mechanical expertise with facility maintenance oversight to maintain a secure and operational environment at all times.
Core Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance
Maintain a safety-first culture across all mechanical and maintenance operations
Identify and correct hazards involving bowling equipment or building systems
Ensure proper use of machinery guards and lockout/tagout procedures
Maintain OSHA and company safety compliance standards
Secure maintenance tools, chemicals, and workspaces
Respond to emergency repairs using safe procedures
Document inspections, safety checks, and maintenance work
Bowling Equipment Operations
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair pinsetters, lanes, scoring systems, and ball returns
Perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and safety risks
Monitor lane conditions for mechanical or guest safety concerns
Ensure equipment operates within manufacturer specifications
Maintain parts inventory to support timely repairs
Facility Maintenance Oversight
Oversee general building systems including electrical, lighting, plumbing, and HVAC
Identify and resolve facility hazards quickly
Coordinate vendor repairs when specialized service is required
Implement preventative maintenance programs
Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas
Operational Leadership
Assist in training staff on safe maintenance practices
Communicate equipment status and repair priorities to management
Support operational readiness during peak business hours
Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation
Qualifications
Experience servicing bowling pinsetter systems and lane equipment
Working knowledge of general facility maintenance
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
Understanding of workplace safety standards and hazard prevention
Ability to prioritize safety while managing repairs
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to lift equipment and work in mechanical spaces
Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays
Preferred:
Leadership experience in mechanical or maintenance roles
OSHA or safety certifications
Bowling industry technical certifications
Work Environment
